Cat Doors - How a Simple Flap Can Make Your Life Easier
Some pets attune their rhythms to those of their owners. They wake up and sleep at around the same time as their masters, they watch TV together, the pet lounges on the sofa quietly while the owner posts on her blog or Facebook account. Their adherence to a feeding time can be impeccable. They are more than just potty trained, in a manner of speaking. When bored they do not scratch the furniture indoors. They don't get bored staying in the house all day. Okay, now it's time to wake up to the real world of cabin-fevered pets. You really can't, no matter how hard your try, keep you cat imprisoned indoors. You're going to need cat doors so they can do what they want. Otherwise, indoors, they'll also do as they please.
Let's start with potty accidents, which aren't really accidents
Even though there are some cats that love staying indoors due to the timed pet feeder and indoor heat or cooling, some get easily bored. For example, even if the potty station is nearby they will still pee at the base of your couch, in your laundry hamper, on your work table, and into your computer.
Cats can scratch their itch, and your walls, shelves, and curtain, too
You can probably start a list of scratch things - curtains, shelves, the couch, chairs, and so on. Don't expect paintings to escape your cat's claws, along with other items of value on your shelves - they'll be shoved down and topped over and break. Mother was right when she said to always keep the house clean - don't leave soiled dishes on the table or even on the sink, keep catsup bottles tightly capped, don't leave fragile items on the table; if you have a bored cat, you'll be reminded of all these. It's possible your cat is just weird, or maybe there's nothing else to do indoors.
The art of randomly pushing down items from shelves - cat style
You're lucky if only books drop from shelves. Some pet owners tend to display some fragile items on their shelves - where else should these items go? A lot of people keep many things on their shelves, which a cat can push or pull and topple over when they're exploring the house - because they can't get out. Cats need to explore - that's how curious they can be - and even if they keep snug-fitting themselves in some unused shelf or box, expect to keep seeing broken and scattered things indoors.
When you're home - you're the butler
When you're home, you constantly have to get up and drop your YM chat, pause from watching some HD film, and put that book down. That's because your cat expects you to do things for him - like open the door. Cats will meow all night and jump on you if need be. Oh and later, when the cat is done doing what it likes outdoors - it will bug you to let it in, by meowing over and over, again.
Because you deserve some relief from the trouble your own cat can cause, it's highly advised that you look into cat doors to see what fits your home and your pet
