Doggy Door - Get the Big One Your Big Dog Needs

If you have big dogs, then you know the racket they can make when they want your attention. You will have to pause what you're doing, for example, when your big dog wants to go outside - because you'll end up with an uneasy big dog that will claw up the walls and doors and furniture.
You close the book you're reading, pause the movie you're watching, turn the heat down on the pot in the kitchen, and go the door to do your dog's bidding. But if you had a dog door installed, you wouldn't have to keep pausing what you were doing - your dog will simply come and go as it likes.

A good, well-chosen doggy door can reduce your big dog-related migraines. A dog door is essentially a frame fitted on a sawed-off lower portion of a door. So you have a broad view of the types of dog doors there are, below is a quick sweep.

The hanging screen or normal dog flap. These are nothing more than flaps in a frame, with the flaps swinging open both ways.
There are flexible semi-transparent varieties. A variant includes a light-weight plastic board that also swings both ways. Some models offer locking setting, so that the flap can open one way and afterwards automatically lock.
The last setting is particularly useful when you want to lock your dog in once it comes home, or lock it out when it goes out.

Two common types are the magnetic and the electronic ones.
Both of these usually have a mechanism that "senses" your dog and your dog only, and opens the door only to your pet.
So only your dog, which wears a special collar can get in or out. Your dog wears collar with a magnet, if you're using the magnetic type dog door.
A receiver collar is used for the electronic type.

Do check to be sure you get a dog door ideal to your particular dog's breed, height, and weight.

Safety and security first.
Since you're getting a big doggy door, that means a persona can get in. If this was a small dog door, it would not usually be a problem - but for your big dog, a small kid, a goat, a raccoon, and may be folded furniture can fit. You may want to either get a dog door with lock settings (it can be calibrated so that once your dog gets in or out, it locks up), (2) automatic dog doors that open only when your dog is near, or (3) a custom built variety (in case you're having it installed on a special type of door or through a wall).
