Fans are one of the few components that are there in your PC which have unsealed moving parts. They have to be open to the air to suck the heat out of the machine and to push cool air in. As a result, they are extremely prone to all those airborne particles that make up household dust which are vulnerable for your PC’s Health. These airborne particles include pet hairs, plant seeds, pollen and broken-down insect remains, even particles of dirt. With a little DIY work on typical desktop PC case, you can increase the reliability of these fans, which in turn will ensure you proper cooling of all your system's important components like processor, memory, power supply and video card. You can filter the air that enters your PC. Just follow these steps to do it.
1. Find a filter
Firstly find an obvious filter material for your PC intake. You can use filter pad that are used in vacuum cleaner, since the material is designed to perform this function. These filter pads are cheap and very easily available. You just have to mark out and cut the filter material to fit it into your particular PC. It does not matter which vacuum cleaner model filters you buy. All of them are good for your PC’S Health. You can even buy filter material sheets, which is even cheaper.
2. Hold it in place
Secondly you need to find something which will hold the filter material in place over the intake on your PC's case. You can stick it in place, but it will be difficult to replace it periodically. There are many ready-made holders for these filter material in the form of a simple J-shaped plastic extrusion. These are normally used to hide the rough edges of hardboard or acrylic sheet fittings. But it is good for holding vacuum filter material, and its gap is ideal for slide fit.
You will get all the lengths you need to add your filter to a typical PC. Just measure the size that you need to hold the filter material firmly in your PC and cut it accordingly.
3. Cut the filter to size
Thirdly measure all the ventilation holes in your PC's case and then cut out a cardboard template for each. Just lay each template on your filter material and draw round it with a marker to make the inserts. Remember to keep the templates, so that you can renew the filters very often. You can fit your filter pieces to the fan ports on the power supplies and hold them in place by undoing all the mounting screws.
4. Fit it to your PC
Fourthly fit the filters when you have the extrusion and filter material cut into size. Just stick all the extrusion strips to the top and to the bottom of the case vent and then slide the filter strip between them so that they are gripped in the channels.
5. Change it regularly
Fifthly for your PC Health change them regularly. Changing these filters takes just 20 minutes. And you should change them every six months.
Adding a filter will reduce the airflow through the vents of your PC in comparison with unfiltered vents. As you protect all your personal and important data with many Data Protection measures in your PC. In the same way by following these steps you can definitely improve your PC Health too.
