Fleas are external parasites and are very common phenomenon in dogs and cats. When your home or your pets are invaded by them, it becomes an uphill task in getting rid of them. The first place you need to target when stricken by these frustrating external parasites is your home, and your pets which are natural breeding grounds for them. If either one are not cleaned up, your flea extermination activities will meet with futile efforts.

The reason why flea extermination is so difficult is due to the very hardy persistency, what with and average lifespan of 2 to 3 months, being able to survive without food for more than 100 days. Topping this record is yet another, with the female flea capable of consuming 15 times it body weight in blood and lays 50 eggs on a daily basis. It is no wonder that infestation takes any home at break neck speed.

These external parasite bites can cause agony to both domesticated animals and the unsuspecting child, giving rise to pain for two weeks with a single bite. Their bites transmit Flea Allergy Dermatitis or FAD to animals, causing allergic reaction from the flea saliva.

Understand that once you are stricken with flea infestation, you would have to undertake the long and painful task of getting rid of them as soon as possible. But bear in mind that this cannot be achieved overnight, and is a full fledge war until the last one is dead.

When cleaning your home for flea extermination, you should take special care never to overlook any piece of furniture, every nook and crevasse must be thoroughly cleaned out. Keep cleaning your home, every dog or cat house and bedding, couch, sofa, carpet, beddings, linen, drapes, and mop all tiles and floorings with disinfectant. Use flea bombs and foggers as and when required. Use wet cloth to clean all furniture in the house, as the eggs are dry, it is easier to pick them up when you swipe them with wet cloth.

Also, vacuum the entire house thoroughly and remember to disposed of the vacuum bags immediately, and burn it if you have to. If left unattended, your vacuum cleaner will become the hot bed for flea infestation especially the warm environment within the machine which serves as incubator.

For your exteriors like decks, deck furniture, patios, it is best to use a hot water power pressure washer with the right kind of detergent for cleaning. You can also use a steam pressure washer to clean drapes, carpets, window and door nets.
