Cat won’t drink from dish, only wants water from running faucet (Palm Beach Post)
**Question**: My 5-year-old male neutered cat refuses to drink water from a
dish anymore. He wants only water from the faucet in bathroom. The water all
through house is the same, and this behavior started only five months ago. He
cries to get this water and his water dish is freshened twice daily. Why is he
doing this? - Nadine
**Answer**: This behavior is very common in cats. So much so that there is an
entire market of cat water fountains. Because his drinking habits have
changed, it is best to bring him to your veterinarian to have a physical
examination done. You just can't tell what small sign your cat is giving you
that will lead to the discovery of a larger medical illness. Cats are great at
hiding illness from us.
If your cat is healthy, I would recommend that you go with the flow. Instead
of fighting your cat's desires, head down to your local pet supply store and
get some cat water fountains.
