No Bark Collar - Apprehensions About the Static Type Collar
There are definite solutions to dog with barking problems. The device is called a no bark dog collar and when you purchase one and use it on your dog, the idea is the collar will prevent your dog from barking. A low volt shock, when you choose the static collar type, is released whenever the collar's device senses your dog barking - over time, that dog will hate the static so much it won't bark anymore. Still, even though static collars have not been conclusively proven to be of definite harm to any dog, there are dog owners who may not want a shocking experience for their pets.
How electric shocks affect a dog
The shock produced by a static collar is a mechanism no different from two others - spray and sound; these are the two other types of stimulus a no bark collar releases. Sound uses a tone only dogs can hear. Studies seem to support the claim that the static and the spray type are of equal effectiveness in stopping dogs from barking.
The are a lot of misleading videos posted online showing people shocking themselves with shock collars. The "skit" usually follows the same pattern - someone holds a bark collar linked to a wire fence buringed underground. The moment they walk outside the perimeter, the collar goes off, shocking them. They yell is shock, but human reaction could be exaggerated.
The level of current delivered by a collar, and this is what some dog owners find hard to accept, is no more harmful than the static one feels when rubbing one's feet across a carpet.
The stimulation level can be adjusted in all collars
The setting the static collar comes with is just a default setting - usually set on the lowest - but it can be adjusted; increased or decreased as you see fit. Usually this starts with the lowest level. Should the dog show signs of getting used to the level, enough to ignore it, then the stimulation level should be increased. It would still take some vigilance and observation after that, you have to see what settings can efficiently stop the dog from barking. It's not non-stop, so it's not torture.
One good alternative to shock collars - Citronella spray collars
There's always some unfounded or vague fear linked to the use of static collars - the worry is correct, but the basis are often not so well-founded. You could always choose another kind of collar if you're not been convinced of the foregoing. You can still choose a no bark collar that does not use a static stimulation. Product choice means competition and that's good. The spray or Citronella type, by the way, is just as good as the static type.
