Complaints show 22 pets died while in care of airlines (local6)

In the past six months of air travel consumer reports, the US Department of
Transportation recorded the deaths of 22 pets who were in the care of an
airline. Delta Airlines had the most complaints, with 10 animal deaths
reported to the DOT. One of those instances happened at Atlanta's Hartsfield-
Jackson airport, when a Labrador retriever was left inside a crate in a
transport van when the flight was delayed for 10 hours. When the flight was
eventually canceled, and handlers went to release the dog it had died.
American Airlines had five reports of pet deaths, and one more that was
recorded as a lost pet even though the animal later died. One report made
national headlines after a cat owner created a Facebook page dedicated to the
lost animal. American Airlines handlers stacked Jack's kennel on top of
another piece of luggage, and when it fell down the door opened, Jack escaped.
He was missing for 61 days and was found in a completely malnourished state,
which ultimately led to his death. A similar situation happened before a
